Life Through The Face Mission

The Lebanese
Life Through The Face

The Royal Geographical Society Exhibition London 2015
Hard back book
Short Documentary Film

This project, The Lebanese is to capture the spirit, the culture, the sophistication and energy  of the Lebanese people.  Through charcoal portraits and words,  Life Through The Face shows there is much more to this region than conflict.  The region is going through major changes and the image is one of turmoil.  Yet it is rich in history and culture. The outside world needs to see beyond the media headlines, and go deeper and discover it’s people.  The people of the Lebanon have so much to say.  Every face  has a story.    So much can be said from a face.   Jacob Sutton’s mission is to reveal and capture this in charcoal portraits. From a small village in the mountains to the capital Beirut people  from all walks of life are documented.   A farmer working on the land in Chouf, Jbail, Baalbek, Bcharre to a businessman/woman in Sidon, Byblos, Tripoli, Tyre. From  mothers and fathers their children, to teachers and students  at school.
Behind each portrait is a person and history.  The book documents what it’s like being drawn, across different parts of the country, with an insight into their personal history and what it means to them to be Lebanese.  For children we have a part called, What I Want to be When I Grow Up.
Here we have portraits of children their the future story, what career or job they want and why.
The mission of this project is to bring to life in pictures and words the Lebanese people
for a greater understanding in the UK about it’s people, it’s history, culture and way of life. The Lebanese are very proud to be Lebanese.  This project will give voice and  platform to this in London.
London will host this project at The Royal Geographical Society London 2015.  Tessa Jowell MP the former Olympic Minister will be invited to open the exhibition and book launch.  The book The Lebanese Portraits will be launched at the exhibition.
